Rare Kenner Star Wars action figures mint on French 20-back La Guerre des Etoiles square card, made by Miro-Meccano in 1979.
This specific figure is a Pilot Run, coming straight from the Miro-Meccano archives. A sticker applied ont the back of the card also show its production date (May 28th, 1982) and number (1/82, meaning first Pilot Run for the 1982 run of this product)
What is a Pilot Run ? Before full production begins, toy manufacturers do a “Pilot Run.” This is a smaller scale production that allows to observe the entire manufacturing process and check its conformity. A pilot run is typically a mini mass production: instead of making, say, 5000 pieces straight away, you will make 100, then 500 to see how the production goes. If it goes well, then you will make 5000 pieces or more. You can see it like a testing production.
