The Citroën Méhari marked a new era in motoring, that of the fun, functional and economical open-air car. Above all, it was a car at ease with the times. In 1979, the Mehari was not the only vehicle in the Banania caravan: the chocolate maker had a large fleet of Citroën CX saloons, Pallas and estate cars, Citroën C25 and C35 vans, and Peugeot 205 and 305 cars. In 1986, Banania withdrew from the Tour de France and did not return until 2003 as the official supplier for the centenary of the Tour de France. Chocolate powder is a product made by roasting cocoa beans. It first appeared in Central America and spread to Europe from the 16th century onwards. As cocoa powder is bitter, it is quickly mixed with sugar and milk to be absorbed in the form of a beverage. In Nicaragua, a French journalist, Pierre-François Lardet, discovered a new recipe in 1912: this time the cocoa powder was mixed with cereals, sugar and banana flour. Back in France, Pierre-François founded the Banania company in 1912 in Paris, with the production site moved to Courbevoie.
